I saw Syriana, and I actually do think it's a great movie, I was just really confused about the criss crossing story lines. Very good foreign policy stuff though. And damn good acting.
The storylines (mostly) made sense at the end, but the movie took too long to develop them and spin them into a web. Also, I am unclear what George Clooney's motive was in the final scene. I also wanted more backstory about what went on between the characters in Beirut in the 80's. I was also very confused by the lawyer's relationship with his dad (?) or whoever that guy was that lived in his house.
< SPOILER ALERT > I think the political message was that all of our foreign policy actions have consequences. For instance, the missle that the CIA "lost" at the beginning of the movie was used to blow up the oil refinery at the end, and the suicide bombers that delivered the blow was driven into the arms of Islamic extremists when he lost his job due to socioeconomic factors beyond his control... < /SPOILER >
I am excited for Munich, another movie that would seem to have relevance in the present day.

OK, I have a question to open up this open thread. Has anyone seen Syriana yet? If so, what did you think?
I thought it was OK, not great, but it did raise some good issues about U.S. foreign policy and corporate influence in our government.

I'm jacked up because I'm going to see the Colbert Report Thursday. Not that it's important to anyone besides me, but I still am excited.
