According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll Americans trust Democrats over Republicans on handling the major issues of today:

I think it's worth pointing out that not only are the Republicans not favored, but Democrats have over 50% on EVERYTHING except immigration (where there is hardly a win-win solution given the circumstances), and US campaign against terrorism, where we still have a plurality.
It's not that people are rejecting Republican offers while being indifferent towards any other ideas, but rather they LIKE the Democrats ideas, a clear majority on just about every issue.
People who say the Democrats don't stand for anything I think are refuted by this.
